Have you heard of a simmer pot before? The basic concept is this: simmer fruit, spices and water together to make your house smell like heaven. (And yes, they do work.) This specific simmer pot recipe will make your house smell like Christmas!
I love everything about simmer pots. I like how the deep red cranberries look mixed in with the bright orange citrus. I like the way the fruit, water and glass catch and color the light. I like how after using a simmer pot I can throw the used ingredients outside for the birds and I especially love how they can make my house smell good without using any artificial ingredients!
Around this time of the year I’m always on the look out for gifts that are meaningful, affordable, simple and non-plastic so simmer pots are a real treasure. Tell me who wouldn’t love finding one of these beauties under their tree? :)
You Will Need:
Apples
Oranges
Cranberries
Cinnamon sticks
Star anise
Whole allspice berries
Glass jar + lid
Begin by slicing the apples and oranges.
Fill the glass jar with the fruits and spices. There is no specific way to arrange the ingredients so just fill the jar in a way that looks pretty. :)
Fill the jar to the neck with water.
Screw the lid on tight and add a bow if you like. All finished!
To use: Pour contents of jar into a saucepan. Bring to mixture to a boil then turn the heat to low and let simmer uncovered as long as you like. Add more water as needed. (Don’t forget to never leave a hot stove unattended!)

Sounds good. My husband is always wanting the house to smell nice. I do not want to use chemical smells even if they smell nice. This sounds like a good compromise. I will try it.
